Jirama reduce diesel oil consumption in power plants

Jiro Sy Rano Malagasy, also known as Jirama, produces, transports and distributes a large part of the electricity in Madagascar. The company also supplies water throughout the country. It covers almost all the public service for water and electricity.

Jules Rakotoarimanana (Jirama Production Manager) started to use XBEE in April 2008 in the power plant located in Ambatondrazaka. Said plant has been built in 1959 and is located in downtown;  therefore, produces electricity 24 hours a day. XBEE technology’s main objective for the company is to reduce diesel consumption and improve the service life of the generators.

After only five months of regular use of the XBEE enzymatic fuel technology, Mr. Rakotoarimanana observed an improvement in generators by 6.13% and a reduction in specific fuel consumption by 1.97%.

Power plant technical specifications:

  • Engines and control room → 7 generators from different OEM’s (2 Caterpillar, 1 Volvo, 1 Mitsubishi, 2 Perkins and 1 Poyaud) for a total power of 2,445 kW, equipped with 7 control boxes and 1 auxiliaries control box.
  • Total power of the energy transformers amounts 1,890 KVA.
  • Total capacity of the main storage tanks amounts 44,000 litres (2 x 15,000- + 1 x 14,000-liter tanks).
  • The daily tank capacity is 5,500 litres of fuel.
